Personal Coaching
My Definition
Now I could give you a text book version about what Personal Coaching is but because we might end up working together I’ll give you my version as that will be more useful for you. When coaching someone I like to think that we are working together and my role is to be a Locksmith. A Locksmith in that everyone has the perfect solution for them to get what they want out of life however they haven’t unlocked it ….. yet. That’s where I come in. Through a bunch of questions, exploration of your world and challenging your perceptions you get to see new possibilities for you. These new possibilities mean that you arrive at your own beautiful conclusions. These new conclusions, new perceptions, new thinking all mean that you can take new actions to move you towards your solution, your change, your evolution.

Personal Coaching, or Life Coaching as it is commonly called, promotes the person’s potential rather than guides the person to the what coach perceives is the solution. Coaching develops rather than imposes and it reflects rather than direct. The person’s change is facilitated to enable the individual rather than train them. Personal coaching is reactive and flexible – it allows for personal transformation for the individual. Coaching of this nature has no assumptions, is judgment free nor is it prescriptive or instructional. Personal Coaching facilitates the other person’s understanding of himself or herself. Personal Coaching has the potential to cover many aspects of an individuals personal development that an individual might aspire to - for career direction and development, management, executive and leadership, small to medium business development and entrepreneurialism, life skills, personal fulfilment and life-balance. Personal Coaching is adaptable because rather than being focused on specific skills it facilitates the unlocking of the individuals potential and they identify the action required to get the results they are wanting. The thing to remember is that the coaches role is to facilitating for someone to discover their very best and help them find the solutions for themselves.
Ways to do Personal Coaching
I’ve coached over the phone, over Skype and in person. You’d be surprised at the ability to get great results irrespective whether you can see the person or not. The benefits for coaching over the phone/Skype is that you have no travel time and you can be in a location of your choice. In saying that, some people simply like having the “in person” contact.
If coaching face to face we’d initially meet at a café, or similar, so you can have your questions answered. Also it is a chance for me to find out more about what you are wanting move forwards with and to see if we are going to be a good match to work together.
A coaching session is typically an hour long.
