Who is Wayne?
Hi, I’m Wayne Cook, Personal Coach for Wayne Cook Coaching based near Fremantle, Australia.
Wayne’s WHY for Coaching
The more I help other people grow into their authenticity, their organic-self, the greater level of personal evolution I experience. There is such an inspiring, ecstatic level of joy I get from assisting people realising a new way of thinking and feeling that is going to give them what they want in their life – now that’s awesome feeling!!! I have the privilege of helping people with a section of their evolution.
How did I get into coaching?
The helicopter ride is this:
Electrician and Youth Worker are roles are self-explanatory. In the Job Co-ordinator role I was training and supporting people with disabilities to maintain their open employment positions. The industries were diverse – I got to behind the scenes exposure to pretty much most industry there are in Perth. I sanded coffins, packaged honey and learnt accounting – in the name of training my clients. That was a very interesting, varied and rewarding role as I initially had 20 clients to train in their task and orientate into their workplace. With the same Employment Agency, I then supported 70 clients and their employer although I stepped away from the training and focused on the consulting, coaching and negotiation aspect when interacting with the employer and client. This role was a real game changer in my career pathway as I went from frequent contact to assist my clients to maintain their job, to a group of clients who were stable in their employment and typically only required one visit per month to sustain or promote employment opportunities and personal development. The question I had at times with these clients was “You are going really well in your job. How can you expand your tasks, education, opportunities here or even for another workplace?” This type of a question really got me inspired – how can we take this to another level?
This has been my pathway forward to coaching. Supporting people with disabilities, with their varying levels of challenges, to then supporting people with disabilities who are stable in their employment so that we were able to consider - what was their next employment opportunity. I left this role to take up full-time stay at home dad role and looking after my 2 daughters (2013) for a year.
After this it was a natural progression to enter the coaching industry. I will say that when I was working in Youth Work and Supporting People with Disabilities in open employment roles I spent a lot of time focused on what was wrong and how to remove the problem to help the person move forward. Going into coaching the shift in thinking for me was “where do you want to go? Lets focus on getting you that!” - this was a huge shift. Listen to a coach long enough and you are likely to hear them say “what you focus on is what you get". Well I now choose to help people get want they want in their life – giddy up!!!
Why work with Wayne?
